"Feingold Concedes Defeat"

The senate has come to its senses and decided that terrorism is as important a problem as drugs (sarcasm off).

Of course CNN can't help but spin this in a negative way. You just have to look at the picture they attached to the story (same as the one to the right here), with the grayed out American flag, to know how they feel. Bias...NEVER! (sarcasm off)

What do you think the black-and-white picture of the American flag represents?

Gee, that's tough! The loss of liberty, the death of America. It represents a lot of things. If they thought it was a good thing, they would show pretty flowers and a girl in a pretty sundress dancing in front of the flag, not a colorless, dreary thing.

I know I'm just a commenter and this is your place, and you're entitled to your opinion, but don't you think you might be reading too much into this? To me, the black-and-white conveys that the Patriot Act and national security are serious issues. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, too, and it was just a design choice by a graphic artist or web designer who has no editorial opinion or input.

I am not sure why you think the graphic would have been different had CNN thought it was a good thing, or why you think they would even have a single opinion one way or the other. CNN isn't just one guy with an opinion, it is an organization of reporters, editors, business executives, and many others who get the news published.

By the way, I didn't really look at the picture that closely before--if you actually look at it, it's in color, not black-and-white.

A larger version of it can be seen here. And that is a Republican web site.

Yes, the picture is on my site too, and it is a conservative site.

And again, it's the whole body of what CNN does, in concert with this picture. I don't claim that the picture alone makes them biased, but their whole body of work. I merely point out the little things they do to shape the debate the way they want it to be shaped.

OK, so we agree there's nothing inherently biased about the picture. You just have a problem with their reporting, correct?

No, the picture is biased. Again, they choose the greyed out flag to represent the loss of America and the iron curtain of the patriot act coming down.

If they liked it, they'd put up roses and flowers and brilliant American flag. Maybe some birds flapping in bird baths...maybe a little girl skipping with a dog. You know.

We obviously agree on nothing.

OK, I'll take your word for it. I don't know anyone who works at CNN and you sound like you have an inside source into their motives. I thought it just signified seriousness, but for me to speculate on their motives when I don't have that kind of inside info would be just as irresponsible as CNN's biased reporting.
